Palabras Clave

Are you ready for some ADULT humour? It is about SEX....

I have got a witty and ingenious sketch for you. A real bundle of laughs. This is a script that you will never perform in an academic classroom, but which is just as educative and valuable to improve your English. Find a friend to practice it with and you will both laugh yourselves silly.

LAUGH YOURSELF SILLY -> means to laugh uncontrollably or for a long time.

Meet Hugh Laurie and Stephen Fry one of the best comic duos in Britain.

Laurie and Fry met while they were undergraduates at Cambridge University and members of Footlights. They were introduced to each other by fellow student Emma Thompson. Their shared sense of humour immediately clicked, forging a comic partnership that became one of the strongest and most enduring in Britain across the 80s and 90s.

I find this sketch hilarious, and the dialogue exquisitely written. Pre-coital Agreement shows two lawyers negotiating the conditions of a sexual encounter on behalf of a couple. Nick (Hugh Laurie) represents the woman, and Richard (Stephen Fry) represents the man. Here´s the script as a PDF so that you can practice the dialogues with a friend.

Humour is sometimes neglected in the language classrooms, specially when the curriculum is geared towards preparing certification exams. Adult humour can be hard to incorporate in an academic environment too. Nevertheless well written comic dialogues like this one can be great resources for dramatizations and role-play activities. These exercises help us build on our lexicon, and improve our listening and speaking skills while having a laugh.

If you fancy learning about other English speaking comedians, I suggest you read my previous post Can't Make Head Or Tail Of Comedy.

And if you enjoyed the humour of Laurie and Fry, here´s a bonus video for you. :-)
